EC, 15 million EUR for helping Albania’s earthquake victims
The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, promised 15 million EUR of assistance for the earthquake victims in Albania.
Besides bringing rescue teams and building experts to verify the building damages, the EU is now offering financial assistance for rebuilding the country.
"The EU is offering its solidarity to Albania with actions, not just words. We are already on terrain and we are committed to bringing even more. The Commission has helped so far with the mobilization of three rescue teams, with more than 200 people from Italy, Greece, and Romania. Commissioner Lenarcic will travel to Albania where he will take a closer look at the affected buildings, and assess the aid that is needed for reconstruction. The first step is to allocate 15 million EUR from the Neighboring Fund, in support of the Albanian people", she said.
